The images are a reflection of our own view of the world around us. Based on Hervé Thery's reading of Heraldry and its quick language to distinguish friendly troops, Peirce's vision of Semiotics, and his ability to read symbols. The theoretical framework included discussions about the application of the elements of Art and Visual Communication, regarding the understanding and belonging of the meanings of the symbols that represent the city and its inhabitants, as well as data on the city's history, agriculture, architecture with European traits and its political emancipation. The coat of arms developed by the artists: Roberto Wagner and Cleuton Azevedo, followed by Mr. Joaquim Neto de Andrade Silva for presentation to the Mayor, being approved by the same and sent to the City Council, being approved with praise. It was sanctioned and transformed into law No. 3722/2017, as a copy of the documents that follow in Annex 01 and Appendix A. This research has a qualitative and quantitative approach, being a case study of the creation of the coat of arms in 2017 for the city hall of the city of Gravatá, located in the countryside of the State of Pernambuco. The methodological procedures adopted consisted of presenting a research with personalities that are and were part of the city's history for the development of the city's coat of arms and demonstration of the application of visual communication elements in the construction of the aforementioned graphic, advertising and institutional piece. Based on the results and discussions, we present the analysis of the construction of the heraldic symbol collectively, using Visual Communication and semiotics as tools for identifying its contemporaneity.
