The muscles and tendons of the rotator cuff work together to provide stability and movement to the shoulder joint. When continuous movements occur in this region for many years, due to work or other events, injuries can occur in this muscle region. Lesions of the rotator cuff are a common cause of pain and disability in the shoulder, and surgical repair is often necessary. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a treatment option that has become increasingly common in recent years. This undergraduate thesis performs a literature review on the main causes of rotator cuff injuries, the types of standard treatments used and the biological properties of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). In addition, a systematic review article is produced to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of PRFs as a treatment option in patients, ultimately discussing the implications of the findings for clinical practice and future research. For this, articles found in electronic databases that went through the inclusion and exclusion process were used, which in the end were selected for full reading and inclusion in the monograph.
