The close relationship between morphometry and functionality in equines is important in predicting performance and selection for the various modalities, which equines are used. The objective of this study was to characterize morphometrically Mangalarga stallions, females and castrated males using the Dactyl-thoracic Index (DTI), Form Index (FI), Estimated Weight (EW), Load Index 1 (LI1) and Load Index 2 (LI2), as well as for linear measurements: Withers Height (WH), Thorax Girth (TG) and Cinnamon Girth (CG). A total of 20,473 equines were used, of which 9092 stallions, 2054 castrated males and 9327 females, registered between the period from 1988 to 2018. Three linear measures (WH, TG, CG) were used to elaborate morphometric indices: DTI, FI, EW, LI1 and LI2. To compare the sexes, a completely randomized experimental design was used, consisting of three treatments: stallions, females and castrated males. The morphometric results were submitted to analysis of variance and the averages were compared using the 5% tukey test (P <0.05) using the SISVAR statistical software (version 5.6). The animals were considered medium or eumetric by WH and EW. The DTI classified the females in hipometric and, stallions and castrated males in hypermetric. For FI, the females tended to saddle animals and, the stallions and castrated males tended to race animals. The females showed a greater capacity to support weight on the back working at a trot, gallop and step, as well as being heavier, deeper and closer to the ground. The stallions and castrated males have been shown to be farther from the ground and a better support condition in relation to the support base.

Cisto subcondral em côndilo medial do fêmur equino: relato de caso
(2018-08-10) Lima, Gustavo Simões; Lucena, Jorge Eduardo Cavalcante; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5117398890386927; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3719013034230840
The subchondral cysts of the medial condyle of the equine femur have a multifactorial etiology, most frequently affecting foals at the age of onset, but can be diagnosed in adult horses. This lesion is characterized by intermittent claudication, according to the level of exercise that the animal is undergoing, if it increases the effort and the frequency, surely the horse will manifest clinical sign. Radiography and ultrasonography are the complementary exams of greater application in the diagnosis of cystic lesions. There are two main therapeutic approaches, the conservative one, which consists of joint infiltration using corticosteroids associated with joint and invasive lubricants, which may be corticosteroid intralesional injection, arthroscopy debridement and transcondylar screw placement. The present study describes the occurrence of a subchondral cystic lesion in the medial condyle of the femur of a 9-year-old equine, who was treated through joint infiltration and showed clinical improvement, returning to sports successfully after 90 days of treatment.

Seleção e adestramento de cães policiais
(2019-07-15) Lopes, Maria Luana Soares; Lucena, Jorge Eduardo Cavalcante; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5117398890386927; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3253155713504510
Since its domestication, Canis familiaris has been of uncertain origin since its domestication, and has gained a wide variety of applications, such as employment in policing which is of the utmost importance to society in general and which consists of a trade that mainly exploits the natural abilities of the specimen, on which there is much research published. However, there are few papers that gather this information to specifically discuss the use of the dog in police actions. Therefore, the objective of this study was to carry out a bibliographical survey about the use of domestic dogs in policing, the factors inherent to this service and, mainly, to gather information to explain how selection and preparation of a K-9 occurs. called the canine trained solely for police employment. For the development of this work, an exploratory research was previously planned to answer the problem in question. A literary investigation was carried out that gathered 50 bibliographies of different textual types, of national and foreign language, dated from 1988 to 2018. At the end the discussion of information was succeeded by the construction of a bibliographical revision of the narrative type. Once the research was concluded, it was concluded that the police dog is employed in the patrol and detection modalities in which his physical and psychological abilities are exploited. The animal is previously selected in view of genetic and performance factors and then undergoes training sessions that work obedience and its congenital impulses. After that, before being officialized K-9, the canid goes through tests that evaluate the viability of its performance.
