The religious brotherhoods were welfare institutions that had to promote collective devotion through the spiritual and material support of their associate brothers in Portuguese America. In this sense, in this work, we propose a study on the Brotherhood of São Pedro dos Clérigos in Vila of Recife during the period from 1713 to 1765. In this proposal, we analyze this institution from the royal and ecclesiastical codes in accordance with the internal statute and the activities carried out by the Brotherhood, seeking to identify as power relations to which it was inserted. For that, the Commitment of the brotherhood of São Pedro dos Clérigos was used, as Ordinations Philippines, as First Constitutions of the Archbishopric of Bahia and a request made by the Brotherhood to the overseas council where they stand out as administrative practices of the Brotherhood.
