Linguistic racism extends beyond the discrimination of non-standard language varieties and is also linked to issues of power and oppression. In Brazil, a country known for its rich linguistic diversity, different linguistic variations often face stigmatization and discrimination, negatively affecting the communities that use them. The film Executive Order (2022) serves as the primary source of analysis for this study as it provides a cinematic context for exploring linguistic racism. By examining the scenes and dialogues in the film, the aim is to identify manifestations of linguistic racism, both explicit and subtle. The film serves as a reflection of cultural and social representations, often perpetuating stereotypes and prejudices related to the Black population in contemporary Brazil. The findings of this research will contribute to a deeper understanding of linguistic racism in the Brazilian context, emphasizing the need to value linguistic diversity and combat discrimination against non-standard language variations. Furthermore, the study highlights the potential of Black cinema as a powerful tool for discussing complex social and cultural issues, promoting critical dialogue, and raising awareness of these crucial issues in our society.
