The present study seeks to understand the relationship between an economic, political and/or fiscal crisis and the management of the municipalities of Pajeú, focusing on Afogados da Ingazeira and Serra Talhada, so that it is possible to analyze the impacts on income from government transfers and own collection. For this, it is explained how the decentralization process allowed the creation of numerous municipalities of small size and with little capacity of own generation of resources, as it is the case of the majority of the municipalities of the microregion of the Pajeú; the participation of municipal management in public policies and their budgetary management is also explained. It points out the changes in the national and municipal indicators that signaled the Brazilian crisis from 2014 and concludes that the economic instability of the period had great influences on the resources of the municipalities, affecting indicators such as employment and income. This emphasizes the need to deepen studies on the subject in order to seek municipal management strategies that may mitigate the effects of an economic imbalance.
